Oh friends. What a year it’s been. For many this has been a tumultuous year. We’ve certainly bared witness to heart ache and stormy weather this year, but after looking through what has become our favorite work related task (collecting what we feel are our strongest images from the year) we are reminded that there is a whole lot to celebrate this year too. And it’s not the pretty wedding details, but real, messy, living and breathing love. From trembling hands that ring their beloved to tiny kicks that wait to be loved and the sugar high induced tantrum that cuts the shoot short – this is life-giving work. It is our great pleasure to bear witness to our clients friends lives. To capture who, where and what you love. We are filled with gratitude to document some of the most tender, vulnerable and joy-filled events in life. The joy rubs off on us too, and for that we are eternally grateful. Let’s do this, 2017.

Christina + Adam = Engaged

Adam – you get an A+ for nailing the marriage proposal. I mean really – how great is this session!? Adam called us up this summer to ask if we’d photograph his proposal to his long time girlfriend, Christina, in Boston’s Beacon Hill neighborhood in front of one of the prettiest flower shops on the Hill. I mean really – how great is this session!? Adam called us up this summer to ask if we’d photograph his proposal to his long time girlfriend, Christina, in Boston’s Beacon Hill neighborhood in front of one of the prettiest flower shops on the Hill. We were all over it and kept everything under wraps as we learned Adam’s plan. Chuck was there on the day-of to shoot and was able to conceal himself without Christina knowing until after Adam had popped the question. The look on her face can’t be put into words, which is exactly why having a professional photographer capture this moment is priceless. After she said yes, Adam and Christina floated on cloud nine with Chuck capturing it all around Beacon Hill and the Boston Public Garden. We’re smitten with these two and are so happy they have these photos to cherish in the coming years as they remember the day she said yes.

Christy + Dan = Engaged

Everything about this session makes us SUPER happy photographers. Shooting at sunset in Concord, MA might just be our happy place – and with Christy and Dan in front of the camera it just doesn’t get any better. A simple setting in glorious light makes for great photos – but what we can’t create are the dynamic connections between people. That’s really where this job can be incredibly diverse even in the same exact lighting situation. And when it comes to dynamic connections, these two have hit a home run. I may have gone over the top in my excitement for these two as they were in front of the camera, perhaps embarrassing myself a bit in my enthusiasm. At one point Christy and Dan shared with me that they were going to be going out for dinner after their session downtown Boston and invited me to attend. At that point I knew I needed to hone back my verbal excitement as I was quickly becoming their third wheel fan girl. 🙂 Needless to say, we are super excited for their wedding next September in Boston and know that these photos are just a taste of the good things to come! Can’t wait to see you again next fall, Christy and Dan!

Alicia + John = Engaged

Alicia + John’s Jamaica Pond Engagement Session is such a great example of how to take an Engagement Session and turn it into something personal, unique and yet still low-key and focused on the couple. The internet is a dangerous place for wedding planning these days, and sometimes couples enter into the Engagement Session process and think they need a pony, floral crown, hot air balloon AND a puppy to have a really great shoot. It’s no secret that we’re fans of keeping it simple – and keeping it about YOU. Unless of course you’re both circus performers and need all those props. Alicia and John hit the nail on the head when they decided they’d like to incorporate some of the best parts of where they live and highlight what they love, namely each other and their dog, Kane. Matt joined them for a warm summer evening on Jamaica Pond where they rented a row boat and brought along some bubbly to enjoy. We LOVE the way these images turned out and think they are quite fun without distracting from the lovely couple themselves. Afterward they brought Matt back to meet their pup Kane and got a few photos around their neighborhood in the late summer’s evening. It was a fun shoot, and only preludes to the kind of amazing that will be served up at their wedding next summer. We can’t wait to document it all, but we’ll have to dream of summer with these photos until we get there.

Cass + Matt = Engaged

Some of our couples are on the fence about whether to do an Engagement Session or not. We are always big fans of going for one for several reasons. First off, they are similar to a catering tasting or wedding dress fitting, both of which are preparations to help the Wedding Day run more smoothly. […]

We are always big fans of going for one for several reasons. First off, they are similar to a catering tasting or wedding dress fitting, both of which are preparations to help the Wedding Day run more smoothly. Secondly, they are just plain *fun*. Some couples can have nerves about being in front of the camera, which we totally get. Matt and I purposefully put ourselves in front of someone else’s camera on an annual basis so we are constantly reminded what it’s like to be in front of that little black box – and it can be scary! It’s our job to make it fun and easy, so we do this the best way we know how – with a very laid back approach. When we have the luxury of an hour or so with nothing to do but take photos with two people in a great location, good things happen. It makes the wedding day a much easier task when it comes to photos since we’ve already built up the repertoire and we feel like old friends versus vendors. I met up with Cass in Matt back in July (HOW is it September 1st already!?) and they needed NO prompting from me to shine in front of the camera. They are naturally warm and affectionate with one another and putting them in an early morning Minneapolis sunrise on the Stone Arch Bridge made this session a breeze. We are looking forward to shooting their wedding next May and know that this is just a small taste of really great things to come. Cass and Matt, you guys are the bees knees! Thanks for sharing your love.
