Raise your hand if you’re ready for spring! I know we are, and although mother nature is pulling a quick one on us today (fastest summer ever! ha) our stellar Associate Photographer Chuck had the privilege of photographing Ellen and Chris’ Wedding day when spring really was starting to show her pretty face. Ellen and Chris are the complete package. Not only are they smart and attractive but they share their values in the place that matters most: family. The couple shares a happy slew of nieces and nephews who brought a lot of joy to their wedding day. Chris’ mother is deceased, but her presence was felt throughout the day and their centerpiece flowers were her favorite. We love the newlywed bliss they are omitting in these images, and think Chuck did an incredible job telling their wedding story. Congratulations you two!

There is something so romantic about winter weddings. The twinkling lights and warmth of a fireplace make coming inside from the blustery cold something of a destination. We’ve seen our share of snow this winter, but everyone welcomed the gentle fall of big fluffy snowflakes on Lindsay and Jeff’s wedding day. We were honored to have the opportunity to tell their story and loved the thoughtful details they infused their wedding day with. From the donation to an animal rescue in lieu of guest favors to the roster of amazing people they chose to invite as their guests….no detail was left unattended. Kind-hearted, loyal and full of love, Lindsay and Jeff were a joy to work with. We are so happy for you two and wish you nothing but the best! Congratulations!

Twinkling lights, fur shawls, traditional elegance and a cozy gathering of friend and family….Lucy and Matt’s wedding was just perfect. Of course its fun to photograph all of the pretty details but what makes this wedding so special is the couple behind the details. Lucy and Matt are genuine, charismatic and have hearts the size of Texas. They are as beautiful on the inside as they are on the outside, and we couldn’t feel more fortunate to capture their wedding day. Their reception at the Tuscan Steakhouse, L’Andana was the perfect backdrop for their celebration and its clear the guests thought so too. Special thanks to our good friend Deb for joining Summer Street for the day with her photo ninja skills, and Congratulations Lucy and Matt. We wish you so many years of health, happiness and good wine!

Janelle + James winter elopement is about as sweet as they come. We love photographing elopements because the couples aren’t distracted by the glitz and glam that weddings can have. Their primary interest is being married – and that is a beautiful thing. These two have the most genuine spirits and hearts the size of Texas. They said ‘I do’ with their parents as their witness’ at the Ramsey County Courthouse, and enjoyed a romantic stroll through Saint Paul’s Rice Park  as newlyweds. We love the twinkle lights and the joy on their faces. Congratulations you two! We wish you many years of happiness together.

2013 in Review

In 2013, we took over 200,000 photos. Whittling it down to our favorites is NOT an easy task, so when we got to the 600 mark we just had to shrug our shoulders and show you them all. So if you’ve made it this far, thanks for sticking with us! This year brought many unique challenges. In fact, it was probably the most difficult year we’ve ever had. We experienced a lot of business and personal growing pains that we knew we’d need to figure out in order to become an even better version of ourselves. Early in the year we officially brought on an Associate Photographer, Chuck, whom you’ve all grown to love. He’s been an incredible asset in our brand and enabled us to expand from just a husband and wife duo to a true team mentality. We are stronger because of him and all of the second shooters we’ve worked with this year. Many folks think that all of the photos on our site are taken solely by Kendra and Matt but we owe a lot to Chuck as well as the amazing photographers who have worked with us as second shooters this year; Li, Briana, Deb, George, Erin and Doug….you are all incredible and our clients are lucky to have you join us.

In addition to adding Chuck into the mix we also learned that we’d be adding more to our team when we found ourselves expecting our first child due in October (aka peak wedding season). That quickly altered our bookings for the fall and we jumped into the world of unknowns also known as pregnancy. A healthy but challenging nine months restricted much of Kendras ability to shoot, which was very hard on us. We always want to be 110% for our clients and when a health restriction puts limitations on your abilities it can be very mentally difficult. Again we were assured of our decision to become more of a team as Chuck and Matt (and our awesome second shooters) stepped up to the plate while Kendra was on maternity leave. We welcomed our beautiful daughter Evelyn into the world in October just as we were wrapping up the bulk of the wedding season. She’s been an immense joy in our lives (not to mention the best photo subject yet) and we are so happy. Our clients have been so wonderful and supportive through this journey and we couldn’t be more thankful.

From reading our blog you wouldn’t know how challenging this year has been for us, and there is a reason for that. Our job is one of the happiest, most amazing things in our life. We are incredibly humbled and honored to get to share intimately joyful moments with our clients. From the anticipation of a bride and groom seeing each other for the first time to the celebratory tears during a wedding toast…we take so much happiness from the love we get to capture. It’s truly infectious. We are so excited for the 2014 Wedding season which will be filled with more beautiful New England weddings, more of Chuck’s awesomeness and more Midwest weddings. With great challenges come great blessings, and we can certainly say we’re feeling content with 2013 and ready for another year of joy, another year of love and another year with 200,000+ photos. Join us?

Today we’re venturing away from our more typical blog post format to talk about something very near and dear to our hearts both as a married couple and as business owners….Wedding Albums. Most of what we share here on the blog are our couple’s visual wedding stories. While technology makes these stories easy to digest on the internet there is nothing like holding a collection of photos in your hands.

Before we dive into the various styles and options of albums that we offer, I wanted to tell you a short story. Last winter we made a trip to the midwest to visit our family, including my Grandfather who is in his eighties. He’s a very sharp man who doesn’t look a day over 70 but since my Grandmother passed away four years ago he hasn’t quite had the same spunk as he always had. I don’t blame him. My Grandmother was the most caring, lovely person I’ve ever known and all of our family feels her absence with great weight. As we were chatting over some coffee and cookies with him we started talking about our work and the pleasure we take in developing relationships with our clients and capturing their love stories. Eventually the conversation shifted to the details of my Grandparents Wedding. After he retold the details of their brief courtship and engagement and the way they celebrated their wedding day we asked him to show us some photos. He ran upstairs and came back down with a very simple wedding album. It didn’t have more than a half a dozen posed portraits, but there it was, all wrapped up in a box with portraits of my dashing Grandpa and my beautiful Grandma in their twenties. A whole life filled with five daughters, world travels, fulfilling careers and over 30 grandchildren lay ahead of them.  As we looked at the photos of them and the excited sparkle in their eyes (as all bride and grooms acquire on their wedding day) it was as if they knew the wonderful adventure that lay ahead. We passed the album around the big round table and laughed. We sipped our coffee, ate cookies, marveled at how certain cousins look identical to my Grandpa in his twenties and shed some tears about how lovely my Grandmother was and how much we missed her. I treasure this day in my heart and am so glad to know that those photos will live on beyond the time that my Grandparents were married.

Imagine for a moment, if we had had this same experience around a computer or a digitally rotating picture frame. We might have all hovered over each others shoulders to see the screen and likely someone would have walked out of the room because they were not engaged enough by the screen. The sense of connection and community would be lost. Many people settle with just having a copy of the digital wedding files. They save them on their computers for “someday” and think they’ll DIY their own wedding album through Shutterfly (why invest thousands of dollars into wedding photography and then put them in a Shutterfly album?) or print them later on. But do you know what happens? They sit on a hard drive and get viewed maybe once a year.

Enter the Wedding Album. Putting your wedding story images in an album is, without a doubt, the best use of your wedding photos. Matt and I have a very large wedding album (from the same company we offer to our clients) that lives on our coffee table. When guests come over it gets cracked open and enjoyed. We don’t keep our album on a shelf because we want to enjoy it on a regular basis (besides, the albums we offer are durable enough to withstand dust, dirt, and the sticky fingerprints of children).

We offer three sizes and three cover choices of professional wedding albums. They come in premium and vegan leather, linen and portrait styles in a 12×12, 10×10 and 8×8 size.  We have a great relationship with our printer in NYC who binds them using all archival materials. They are understated, classic and durable. We searched high and wide for an album company that we’d be proud to display in our own home and we couldn’t be happier with the quality and cover selection they offer.

Now for the fun part….photos! First up we have the 12×12 Leather Album. The leather cover is buttery and beautiful with the option to have a photo on the front or imprinting on the spine or cover. Here is a 12×12 Navy Leather Album with Cover and Spine Imprinting and a Cover Photo from Charlene and Andrew’s wedding last July.

All of the album are what is considered a ‘lay flat’ binding which enables us to print images across two pages and utilize lots of image layout design possibilities! In addition, they are super easy to turn the pages and allow the book to lie in your lap and turn pages one-handed.

Next up we have the 10×10 Leather in Camel from Kelsey and Danny’s Guatemala Wedding. This is a great example of a Leather Album without a photo on the front.

Finally we wrap up the leathers with this example of an 8×8 Olive Leather Album from Ashley and Jamie’s Vermont Wedding. We also love the ability to have square orientation images on the front which can be centered or lower right hand justified.

Here are all three leathers together.

Now we move on to the Linens. First up we have the 12×12 Linen Album. We love this album and the ability to imprint on the front or put an image on the cover. Here’s a 12×12 album from Melissa and Jonathan’s farm wedding:

Here’s an example of a 10×10 Linen Album in Smoke. This is our most popular album size and cover choice. This example has a square image on the front with no text. We love the simplicity.

Since all of the albums are ‘Lay Flat’ you can print one image between two pages. We love having at least one photo in an album like this!

Finally we have an 8×8 Linen Album from Kaitlyn and Ryan’s Wedding last summer in New Hampshire. The initials on the front keep it simple and personalized.

Here are all three linens laid out together so you can get an idea of the size difference.

Finally we have the Portrait Album. This album is not availible in 12×12 but we do offer it in 10×10 and 8×8. Check out this 10×10 Portrait from Maggie and Seth’s wedding back in 2011.

Our favorite part of the portrait album is that you can use one image to be spread between the front and back cover, as well as personalize any text you’d like.

Here’s an 8×8 Portrait Album from Annette and Jason’s wedding. This is a fantastic option for people who want to order a parent album since they are bright and eye catching as well as affordable.

There you have it! We love our album offerings and know you will too. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you’re interested in placing an order OR shooting your wedding to have one of these gorgeous books!

We are so grateful to have the job we do. Telling love stories through images is already an incredible job, but what is even more incredible are the people who invite us to share in a part of their story. Anne and Bill are just the sort of people whom we are blessed to call our clients. Anne is kind-hearted, beautiful and full of grace. Bill is steadfast, fun-loving and a true gentleman. Together they wanted to celebrate their union with a classy and beautiful day that was full of personal touches and love. It’s no surprise that their wedding day turned out to be as lovely and wonderful as they are. Chuck and our good friend Briana were there to capture it all on film, and we couldn’t be happier with the result. Bright autumn colors dressing Harvard’s stoic campus provided a fantastic backdrop to their portraits while Harvard’s Memorial Church gave a solemnly beautiful space for the two to exchange vows. Their guests showered them with love and congratulatory hugs as they all continued the celebration at Watertown’s Oakley Country Club. We are so happy for you, Anne and Bill, and we wish you nothing but the best as you begin the great adventure of marriage. Congratulations!
