In the midst of peak wedding season, we thought it might be nice to share some non-wedding work we’ve been up to. We love working with married couples. Last December, Graham approached us to purchase a holiday gift for his wife, Val. Val needed some professional head shots, and he thought it might be a fun gift to give. We had a mini session in January, since Val needed one quick shot for a project she was working on and decided to wait until the weather was a little nicer before moving forward with the rest of the session. We met up over labor day weekend to round out her head shot session, and even caught a few of Graham with her. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed getting to know these two. Not only have they been extremely easy to work with, they are very kind -hearted and interesting to talk with. They even came to my dance company’s show last spring, which meant so much to me. Oh! And also, Val’s shirt means ‘happiness’ in Chinese. Apparently it’s the symbol they use at weddings. :)

Elizabeth

Elizabeth is in College for Acting in California, and we were able to meet up while she was home visiting family in Newton. When I first met with her, I thought we may have to do a few photo warm ups to get her camera shy-ness to go away. Not that I made snap judgements at everyone, but most people who seems a bit more reserved need a little more time to warm up to having a camera in their face. We started with a few shots and BAM! She was working the lens. Not only was she an absolute natural, she had such confidence and poise in front of the camera…as you will quickly see. She is getting into Film Acting, and I have no doubts that she will be big time in no time. Best of luck to you, Elizabeth, as you send out your head shots to Agencies. We’re rooting for you!!

If I got to choose my future sister-in-law, it would be Hannah. (Are you listening, Drew?) I’ve had the privilege of getting to know Hannah over the last nine months since she was dancing with my collective, Six One Seven Dance Collective. Not only is Hannah a beautiful dancer and well ahead of her peers in her dancing, she is a total and absolute sweetheart. She is graduating in a few weeks and then will be headed off to Michigan (her first choice of schools!)  to get her BFA in Dance. Hannah is confident yet humble, giggly but grounded and ready to take on the world. We had a fun morning avoiding the Central Square crazies while finding the nooks and crannies of Cambridge. I absolutely love photographing seniors because they will do almost anything you ask. Including standing on a milk crate box in a smelly Bank of America ATM in order for me to get the perfect light. Thank you for letting me capture such a special time in your life, Hannah. I will miss you next year but I know you’ll rock the house in Michigan!

You may remember Heather from her Bridal Session we posted a few weeks back. While she’s not enjoying her life as a newlywed, Heather dances professionally in Minneapolis with a company called Electric Edge Ensemble. She is also in the beginnings of starting her own Wedding Planning Business. Whew! Busy lady. As you can see, she is absolutely adorable and I want to raid her closet. We had a fun time exploring some unexpected spaces for her head shot session, (like on a kitchen counter!) and we think the result is fresh and fun. Just like Heather. Congratulations on all of your accomplishments, Heather. We wish you the best!

Lauren

Some people are like superman….or woman. Actually, I know far more superwomen than supermen. Lauren is a superwoman. She sings, she dances (quite well), she acts, she volunteers, she takes photographs, she writes, and I’m convinced that she could have a conversation with virtually any type of person in the world. Lauren has a huge […]

Lauren has a huge heart and a work ethic that not many her age posses. She’s a budding photographer and if you live in Minneapolis I’d recommend her to have some head shots taken (her specialty). So what’s a headshot photographer to do when she needs headshots herself!? Call us, of course! One of the hardest things about being a headshot photographer is that the natural light source is extremely crucial towards getting the photographs you need that won’t shadow the face in funny ways, or make people squint. As you can imagine, the wintertime is not the best for finding this kind of light (because of the blush inducing cold and the sun reflecting qualities of snow) so we are sometimes forced to shoot indoors. Lucky for us, the Landmark Center in St. Paul, MN has lots of little sun filled nooks that maybe even topped the ever praised summer sunrise light. Don’t believe me? See for yourself.

Have you ever met someone and immediately wanted to call them your friend that you’ve had since the third grade? Meet Jessica. Spend five minutes with her and you’ll feel like you just finished an afternoon chatting at a cupcake cafe with pink butter cream frosting. Her energy is infectious and her laugh is adorable. She’s finishing her senior year at Boston University and is about to jump into the professional world of acting. When she called us about doing head shots for her, we were immediately excited but also a little scared to give her ‘season-less’ headshots in the dead of winter.  A little bit of scouting and we were totally happy to find sun drenched indoor locations that were not only bright but also warm! Hello pretty blue tank tops! Hello awesome hair! And hello amazing blue velvet wing back chair that Matt had to restrain me from stealing!  You’ll see what I mean.

Tatiana

You can tell a lot about a person from looking into their eyes. You find a sense of trust in them. Clear, clean and bright. Love, honesty and peace. It’s amazing how someones eyes can tell you that, but somehow they do. Tatiana has been blessed with these allusive eyes. They are clear and calm, which I think tell a lot about her style of acting and directing. Having only spent a little amount of time with her, I know that I would trust her as a director. She is level headed and sweet. Giggly and grounded. Oh yes,  and did I mention gorgeous?
