The D Family in the Springtime
You guys, I have to apologize for something. We are so, so behind on sharing recent work on our journal. Like, maybe two years behind? Somewhere in the mix of the instant gratification of Instagram posts and traveling for this work - we’ve let our current portfolio on our website slide so we can continue turning around photography commissions as quickly as we can so they can go live with the families that hire us - and then we stop working so we can do live with our own family.
Something that we’re all living in right now in Covid-world is the very real implications of time and energy. We all have 24 hours in a day, and when life feels really full, and when work and other responsibilities (cough, cough, children) are a very time and energy consuming affair, you focus your attention on what absolutely must get done. We’ve always gone with minimal childcare in our household so that we could afford to keep doing this job (God Bless Grandmas, high school neighbor sitters and sergeant-level time management skills) because we have wanted to spend as much time as possible with our kids and we’ve wanted to continue doing this job and not going to a traditional 9-5. This has been our MO the last 7 years, and I can tell you from those 7 years that it’s hard…and now that so many of us are living this same schedule there are more of us who know how hard it is.
So we’ve let our journal go a bit. But with the photography restrictions in place right now with the Shelter in Place order, we’ve had more time to catch up on the bottom of our to-do lists and we’re working on updating some things around here. This shoot was taken for Alicia and Dennis, whose wedding we photographed in North Dakota in 2015. They live in Chicago now and have a darling daughter. We met up with them last spring to photograph their live in Chicago as the spring was really showing off - and their session was so darling that I just had to bring it up now that it’s springtime again. I mean, is there anything more joyful and beautiful than this?
