2020 has been without a doubt one of the hardest years in American history. There has been so much pain, anxiety, fear, loss, grief, trauma and agony. We have all been impacted in different ways by the tsunami the Coronavirus is wrecking on our country. Our country is fighting a physical virus as well as a systemic one, and there has been countless times I’ve reminded myself that we grow under pressure.
Our own business has seen a difficult year as well. Our regular roster of around 25 weddings was reduced to four, and most of those were cut back to just a few guests. The financial impact on our business was great. One silver lining is that we were able to photograph many wonderful families outdoors, and at a safe, masked distance (oh how we miss you, studio!) If we wrote a memoir about this year it would be called ““Zoom and Zoom Lenses: a guide to portrait photography in a global pandemic.
Although this year has without a doubt been hard, it has also brought many gifts. The gift to slow down, the gift of perspective, the gift of gratitude for those who serve our country on the front lines (in many hats), the gift of time, the gift of nature and fresh air. And if you’ve made it to the bottom of this post, you can see that despite the deep difficulties, the images that resulted from this year are mostly full of joy. Joy for what matters deeply to us in the form of our relationships with others. That is exactly why we do what we do (which we talk all about in our new website video, which if you have not seen yet head over to our About Us page!) and it’s what we will continue to do moving forward.
2021 - we all know better than to proclaim you as our own and wash away the pain that 2020 has brought. We take the lessons this year has brought and tuck them away to remind us of what we value most. As for us, we will continue to hold onto hope for better days ahead. Together.
